| Article | July 2, 2010 Celebrating Pride Week at Fudger House Residents of Fudger House, one of Toronto’s long-term care homes, proudly raised the rainbow flag above their home today, celebrating their commitment to ensuring an environment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender positive care for all residents. Councillors Pam McConnell (Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale) and Kyle Rae (Ward 27 Toronto Centre-Rosedale) and MPP Glen Murray joined residents, staff and community members at 439 Sherbourne St. for a celebration of diversity and respect for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) seniors and long-term care residents. “I’m glad to see how Fudger House has shown a great commitment in response to the needs of LGBT individuals requiring long-term care," said Councillor McConnell. "Through their programs and services, they have reached out to their community and created a safe and positive environment for all cultures, faiths and sexual orientations.” “Fudger House is leading the way for all of Toronto’s long-term care homes by actively supporting and celebrating residents of all sexual orientations,” said Councillor Rae. “It is great to see all the residents come out and support each other and embrace diversity.” Fudger House, Kipling Acres and True Davidson Acres were the City’s first long-term care homes to introduce a formal program of LGBT-inclusive services. In addition to the flag-raising, Fudger House will also be participating in the annual Pride Parade. |
