Article | October 18, 2013 The City of Toronto is ranked second behind Sydney, Australia in an annual study, comparing the reputations of 100 cities worldwide, recently issued by the Reputation Institute. In 2012 Toronto placed 22nd in this same study. "For the past three years, the City of Toronto has been focused on creating the conditions to drive economic growth and boost employment in our city," said Mayor Rob Ford. "My administration has worked hard to make Toronto a business friendly environment, and that focus is paying off. Toronto's impressive result in this international study confirms we are on the right track." The annual City RepTrak Study surveys more than 22,000 people from the G8 countries and ranks the worlds 100 most reputable cities based on levels of trust, esteem, admiration and respect, as well as perceptions regarding 13 attributes. The three key dimensions of the study are an advanced economy, appealing environment and effective government. The study results confirm the links between city reputations and economic outcomes, while also highlighting the key drivers of a good reputation. Along with Sydney and Toronto, the top five cities include: Stockholm, Sweden; Vienna, Austria; and Venice, Italy. Toronto is the only Canadian city in the top ten this year. Toronto was also ranked as the top city to work in, the second most attractive city to live in and the seventh highest ranked city in the invest category.
