Mayor David Miller to participate in groundbreaking for new child care centre and community space in Chester Le

Mayor David Miller will be joined by Councillor Mike Del Grande (Ward 39 Scarborough-Agincourt),Toronto District School Board Trustee Soo Wong, residents, community partners and City of Toronto and TDSB staff for the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new child care centre and community space that will be added to Chester Le Junior Public School.

The child care centre, which will accommodate 62 children (up to four years of age) in the new space, will include an additional 30 spaces for school-age care in the school. The community space will be a 465-square-metre (5,000-square-foot) facility featuring a youth space, computer lab, community kitchen and several multi-purpose rooms to support a range of programs for residents of all ages.

There will be two performances, one by break dancers from Unity Charity and one consisting of traditional Chinese music by the Toronto Chinese Orchestra.

The child care centre and community space are among the community infrastructure and enhancement projects funded through the City of Toronto’s Partnership Opportunities Legacy (POL) Fund. The POL Fund is being used for new social, programming and recreational facilities, and other infrastructure improvements. It also gives priority to youth focused initiatives at the neighbourhood level.

Upon completion of the POL Fund, it is anticipated that $37.7 million in new leveraged infrastructure investment will have been made in Toronto’s 13 priority neighbourhoods, of which $13.million is direct City investment. For every dollar the City invests in building community capital infrastructure via POL Fund, the City has leveraged approximately $1.90 in partnership funding.
