St. Lawrence Market hosts a free Strawberry Social

Celebrate the start of Ontario’s strawberry season with a visit to Toronto's St. Lawrence Market on Saturday, June 19 for a Strawberry Social. Visitors to the market can enjoy free strawberries dipped in chocolate and whipped cream.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitors can sample strawberry smoothies at the St. Lawrence Juice Bar, and there is face-painting for kids as well as a Food Tasting and History Show presented by the St. Lawrence Wine Market (beginning at 10 a.m. at the Market Kitchen).

The North Market at 92 Front St. E. comes alive on Saturdays, when more than 50 Ontario growers travel to the city to sell their fresh produce and meats.

Ontario’s strawberry season starts around June 20. In addition to enjoying local strawberries, look for other Ontario seasonal delicacies such as fresh asparagus, leaf lettuce and rhubarb.

A perfect Saturday morning activity is visiting the market, where you will find everything you need for a great weekend barbecue. St. Lawrence Market was rated one of the best 25 markets in the world by Food & Wine magazine. The South Market, open daily from Tuesday to Saturday, is home to more than 60 specialty vendors, selling everything from Far East spices to the freshest seafood and cuts of meat.
