Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that he will meet with Enrique Peña Nieto, President-elect of Mexico, on November 28, 2012, during his visit to Canada.

“I am pleased to welcome Enrique Peña Nieto, President-elect of Mexico, to Canada at this time, as Mexico is one of Canada’s closest friends and partners,” said the Prime Minister. “Mexico and Canada enjoy excellent bilateral relations underpinned by dynamic and expanding commercial ties and I look forward to working with President-elect Enrique Peña Nieto on ways to further strengthen North American competitiveness and security.”

In Ottawa, Prime Minister Harper and the President-elect will discuss ways in which the two countries can further strengthen trade and investment, security, people-to-people ties and North American competitiveness, as well as cooperate in the hemisphere and internationally.

Canada and Mexico are amongst each other’s largest trade partners. Bilateral merchandise trade has grown nearly seven-fold since NAFTA took effect in 1994, surpassing $30 billion in 2011.

Enrique Peña Nieto will be inaugurated as President of Mexico on December 1, 2012.
