You and I both know there are few things that matter more than protecting our environment for generations to come. But Stephen Harper’s Conservative government just doesn’t agree.

Tomorrow, MPs will likely begin voting on the Conservatives’ undemocratic Monster Budget Bill. This bill may be dressed up as a budget implementation act. But it also makes sweeping changes to vital legal protection for our country’s lakes and rivers.

In the next 48 hours, we could see the number of protected waters in this country plummet to just 62 rivers, 97 lakes and three oceans.

We will not sit back and let this happen without a fight. And we need your help – right now.

Today, I’m putting forward a motion asking Members of Parliament on all sides to remove their partisan blinders and maintain protection for Canada’s lakes and rivers.

This won’t happen easily.

If Stephen Harper’s Conservatives won’t maintain protection for all Canadian lakes and rivers – then at the very least we need to save the 27 Canadian Heritage Rivers whose protected status would be stripped by this monster bill.

Join me in urging Conservative MPs to step up today.

We may never get this government to meet us eye-eye on the environment. But together, I believe we can convince Conservative MPs to take a small first step by restoring protection for these 27 Canadian Heritage Rivers.

Let’s give it our best shot.
