The City of Toronto mailed its 2013 interim property tax bills in January. The final tax bill will be mailed in late May.

There are several ways to pay a property tax bill:
• At most banks or financial institutions, through Internet banking, telephone banking, automatic teller or in person. If paying tax bills through an automatic teller, telephone or Internet banking, customers should pay before the due date to ensure payment reaches the City's office on time.
• In person at the inquiry/cashier counter at City Hall or any civic centre from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Extended hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be offered from Wednesday, February 27 to Friday, March 1. Inquiry/cashier counters are located at:
• Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.
• East York Civic Centre, 850 Coxwell Ave.
• Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall
• North York Civic Centre, 5100 Yonge St.
• Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.
• York Civic Centre, 2700 Eglinton Ave. W.

The City also offers the option of paying property taxes through a Pre-Authorized Tax Payment Program (PTP). This plan allows taxpayers to pay their taxes in two, six or 11 pre-authorized, automatic instalments over the course of the year. The next PTP enrolment deadline is March 8 for the remaining instalments of the 2013 tax year.

Payment due dates for the interim tax bills under the regular instalment plan, and the withdrawal dates for the six-instalment PTP plan, are March 1, April 2 and May 1, 2013.

For the two-instalment PTP plan, the withdrawal date for the interim tax bill is March 1.

For the 11-Instalment PTP plan, the withdrawal dates for the interim bill payments are on the 15th of every month (or the next business day thereafter) from February to June.

When applying for the PTP program, you must pay all the instalments of your current tax bill. Post-dated cheques are accepted for payment. Applications for the PTP program, including a void cheque, can be delivered to one of the locations listed above or mailed to Box 2500, Terminal A, Toronto Ont., M5W 1H2.

Residents now have the option of receiving their property tax bill statements through epost ; the digital mailbox from Canada Post that makes it easy to receive, manage and store bills online. Sign-up today at http://www.epost.ca to receive the 2013 final property tax bill.

Every property owner in Ontario received a 2012 Property Assessment Notice from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) this past fall. These notices identify the current value assessment (CVA, or an estimate of the market value of the property) based on a valuation date of January 1, 2012. The notices also identify the CVA that will be used for taxation purposes in each of the 2013-2016 taxation years. It is important for property owners to review their notices carefully. If you disagree with your assessment value or if you have any other concerns, contact MPAC as soon as possible. The deadline to appeal your assessment value or initiate a Request for Consideration is April 1, 2013. More information about the process is available at www.mpac.ca.
