Photographic art works by six Toronto artists will be featured in the Face to Place exhibition running from September 21 to October 19 at the City of Toronto's Market Gallery. An independently curated presentation, Face to Place illustrates the photographers' personal connections to social and architectural history in the urban landscape.

Organized by Artify curator Susan L. Brown, the exhibit of about 40 photographs demonstrates the rich variety of artistic perspectives and photographic techniques of Yousuf Afridi, Jason Brown, Alan Dunlop, Horst Herget, Bradley Lipton and Bohdan Vandiak.

The face of Toronto has been changing rapidly since the middle of the last century, as seen in snapshots of the streetscapes and residents of areas such as the Danforth, Queen West, Forest Hill, and Yonge and Eglinton. The artists featured in Face to Place capture these changes from their individual perspectives, addressing themes that include urban development and homelessness.

The photographs range in format from Herget’s intimate tin-type images to Lipton’s more abstract, larger black-and-white panels. The photographs and copies of the exhibition catalogue will be for sale.

An opening reception and fundraiser for this show will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 21.

Market Gallery exhibitions are free to the public. The gallery is mandated to showcase Toronto’s art, culture and history, and offers educational programs for school groups and adults.
