Surrey, British Columbia – Fusion Festival 2010, Bulle Bulle! (great, wow!, rockin’ awesome!!). Let’s hear it for Surrey! This year’s Surrey Fusion Festival took place on July 17 and 18 at Holland Park and by any measure, was an unqualified, tremendous success.
It featured a superb line-up of international and local artists, celebrating the vastness of Surrey’s global community with two full days of music, dance, food and culture, bringing together 30 international pavilions and exhibitors who presented a delicious array of world cuisine while showcasing their heritage. Young and old, had the opportunity to sample food from all over the world and to see and buy a wide variety of arts, crafts, and merchandise.
A hundred, simply amazing performers filled four stages at this year’s festival; including South Asian superstar, Lehmber Hussainpuri, who closed the Bhangra Party on the main stage to a massive ovation.
Councillor Tom Gill said, “Our Fusion Festival continues to draw thousands of Surrey residents and others from across the Lower Mainland each year. I can’t believe how amazing it was to see people from all cultures singing and dancing along with the performers on stage. Everyone had a fabulous time. We hope to have this free event every year and build upon the success and demonstrate to the world how well we can embrace our differences and diversity, enjoy what each culture brings to our lives, and welcome all to Surrey. Surrey is a spectacular place and the future indeed lives here.”
Asked what the Fusion Festival is all about, Councillor Barinder Rasode, Chair of the City’s Multicultural Committee, said, “It’s a full-blown, inclusive party, celebrating the diverse cultures that exist in the Greater Vancouver Area. We come together to celebrate our differences, dance to the different rhythms, and with our family, friends, and neighbours, enjoy the best food in the world. What an amazing event! Way to go Surrey!”
