Three New Canadian Deaths Due to SARS

Provincial officials recently announced the death of three more SARS patients, bringing to death toll of those taken by the disease to 19. Among these deaths there was a 44 year old man who died Thursday night, two women ages 69 and 64 who died Friday. While it was known that the 69 year old man had complicating health problems, it was immediately evident if the 64 year old women did as well.
During this announcement, officials warned that a number of patients remain in critical condition that they would not be surprised if the death toll rises again before the Toronto outbreak is brought under control. The provincial numbers rose by eight Friday to a total of 265 probable and suspected cases of SARS, however, a majority of these people have recuperated since then and have been sent home, while 83 remain in hospital while most of the remainder are under treatment at home.
The advisory, which was issued Wednesday, urges people around the world to avoid coming to the city if that is at all possible. Travel advisories are also in effect for Hong Kong, Beijing and the Guangdong and Shanxi provinces of China.
