Events during City of Toronto's Workforce Development Week
Workforce Development Week will feature events across Toronto from October 22 to 26. These community events follow Monday morning's launch event, where Mayor Rob Ford will talk about the City of Toronto's efforts and events aimed at connecting employers and job seekers. Media are welcome to attend and cover any of these events.

Monday, October 22
World MasterCard Fashion Week World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, October 22 to 26, will host more than 50 designers on the runway and studio to promote the latest ready-to-wear collections and our fashion industry to national and international media. During this week a number of Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) members and alumni will be showing their collections. A list of events is available at http://worldmastercardfashionweek.com/calendar/.
Loblaw Recruitment Event The City of Toronto and Loblaw Companies Limited are hosting a recruitment event to connect qualified candidates to jobs in their local Loblaw, Joe Fresh and Superstore locations. The location is Golden Mile Employment and Social Services, 1880 Eglinton Ave E. starting at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, October 23
Open House events Beaches Employment & Social Services and Attwell Employment & Social Services will each host open house events on Tuesday. Employers, job seekers and the public will be able to learn about the services offered by the City's Employment and Social Services division. Successful employment programs will be showcased, and people who attend will have the opportunity to learn and use City's online employment tools.
The Beaches open house will be held at Beaches Employment & Social Services, 1631 Queen St. E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Attwell open house will be held at Attwell Employment and Social Services, 220 Attwell Dr. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Keeping You Connected - Toronto North Business Luncheon A luncheon event at 300 Supertest Rd. from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday will give employers an opportunity to learn about business and hiring incentives available through the City; procurement opportunities for the Pan/ParaPan Am Games 2015; promoting business through social media; and preparing a business for emergencies. Attendees will also receive an ICI real estate market update.
Networking Event for Engineers A "speed networking" event will be held for engineers and prospective employers from 6 to 9 p.m. at Metro Hall, 55 John St. (Room 308). Participating employers will include the City of Toronto's Technical Services division, Metrolinx/GO Transit and Waterfront Toronto.
Basic Bookkeeping for New Business Owners October is Small Business Month at the Toronto Public Library. An information session at the North York Central Branch, 5129 Yonge St., starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday will review basic bookkeeping for small business owners. Canada Learning Bond Event The City of Toronto, in partnership with SmartSaver, Service Canada and financial institutions will help low-income residents gain access to the Canada Learning Bond. The Canada Learning Bond is a $500 grant from the Government of Canada provided to help low-income families start a Registered Education Savings Plan for their children. This event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Queensway Employment and Social Services, 779 The Queensway.
Rexdale Community Hub Open House From 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, a tour will be provided of the Hub - Rexdale Community Hub - which includes many community agencies that provide support to residents. The address is 21 Panorama Ct.
Investing in Neighbourhoods Recognition Event - Scarborough Community This community event will be held at 2660 Eglinton Ave. E. from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Through the Investing in Neighbourhoods initiative, the City of Toronto works with more than 30 community agencies in the Scarborough community alone to provide Ontario Works recipients with on the job skills and experience. The initiative creates employment opportunities in local non-profit organizations. Note: Media who wish to film/photograph at the site must check in with City staff first. Lawrence Square Employment & Social Services Open House Lawrence Square Employment & Social Services will and host an open house event on Wednesday. Employers, job seekers and the public will be able to learn about the services offered by the City's Employment and Social Services division. Successful employment programs will be showcased, and people who attend will have the opportunity to learn and use City's online employment tools. The Lawrence Square open house will be held at Lawrence Square Employment & Social Services, 700 Lawrence Ave. W. from 10 a.m. to Noon
Partnership to Advance Youth Employment (PAYE) Forum The PAYE Learning Forum will help young job seekers prepare for career opportunities with potential employers. Speakers and career coaches support unemployed youth, who will have the opportunity to discuss potential entry level positions in customer service with financial institutions including Scotiabank, the Bank of Montreal, TD Canada Trust, RBC Royal Bank and CIBC. PAYE is a joint partnership between the City and private sector employers that has been successfully supporting youth since 2007.

TRIEC Campus Roadshow The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) will provide skilled immigrants the opportunity to use its new online portal, TRIEC Campus at an event held at the Toronto Board of Trade, First Canadian Place, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Resources include e-learning modules and training videos and discussion guides.
Thursday, October 25
City of Toronto Career and Information Fair The City of Toronto will host a Career and Information Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge St. City divisions that have ongoing recruitment opportunities, or that have future recruitment plans, will participate in this job fair. Attendees will learn how to apply for City job opportunities, and can find out about the necessary skills and experience required for these positions.
Cliffcrest Employment Services Open House Attendees will be offered tutorials on the City of Toronto's online supports for job hunting and will learn about programs offered by the City and its community partners. This open house will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at 2985 Kingston Rd.
Celebrating Regent Park Success The Paintbox Bistro is a recent success story of the Regent Park revitalization. Many of the bistro's staff are community residents who had support from the City of Toronto and a group of partners for training and connection to this local employment opportunity. At this event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Paintbox Bistro, 555 Dundas St. E., bistro staff will tell their success stories and talk about this new employment opportunity. Buying a Business or a Franchise October is Small Business Month at the Toronto Public Library. This information session, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge St. will provide information about buying a franchise. Crossways Employment Services Open House People who attend this open house at Crossways Employment Services (2340 Dundas St. W., 3rd floor, suite 302), will be given a tour of the location and learn about the many employment services, supports and programs offered by the City and community partners. This open house will run from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday.
Yonge Eglinton Employment and Social Services Open House featuring Riocan People will be offered tutorials on the City's online supports for job hunting and learn more about programs offered by the City and community partners at this open house. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 150 Eglinton Ave. E., 9th floor. A guest speaker from employer Riocan will talk about the company's hiring practices, the types of skills it is looking for, and current opportunities.
