St. Lawrence Market's 'Mmm' event raises $25,000 for FoodShare Toronto

The inaugural "St. Lawrence Mmm Market Night - An Adventure in Flavour" food event raised more than $25,000 for FoodShare Toronto, organizers report.

The market's south building was transformed into a gastronomic experience with galleys of foods prepared by the South Market merchants. The sold-out event welcomed almost 1,200 guests. Half of the November 8 event's proceeds were donated to FoodShare Toronto, a non-profit community organization whose vision is "good, healthy food for all."

"This was a wonderful opportunity for our St. Lawrence Market to give back to the community through a partnership with FoodShare Toronto," said Councillor Pam McConnell (Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale). "Just as our Market merchants offer some of the best and freshest food in the city, FoodShare is ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to access fresh and nutritious food."

Funds raised will directly benefit schools and community members in the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood. FoodShare will deliver innovative and empowering food programs including healthy fresh produce, food literacy, community cooking and gardening programs.

This Adventure in Flavour event was a success in large part thanks to the support of St. Lawrence Market partners Citytv, Impark, The Grid, David Adjey, Art Battle, CityBites and Mill Street Brewery.

St. Lawrence Market is a renowned international food market. Over 120 merchants and vendors serve the freshest produce, meats and baked goods. Located in Old Town Toronto, at Front Street East and Jarvis Street, St. Lawrence Market is spread throughout the south and north market buildings. A food destination for the City of Toronto, the market provides cooking classes and demonstrations taught by professional chefs.
