Article | May 6, 2013 Residents of the City of Toronto's Bendale Acres welcomed Mayor Rob Ford and other supporters of the Toronto Challenge at the launch of this year's run and walk to raise funds in support of seniors across Toronto. The event will be take place June 9.
Joining Mayor Ford were Nick Ametrano, Vice-President of MonsterMortgage.ca., Carla Beaton, Vice-President of Medical Pharmacies Group Limited, City of Toronto staff and representatives of community agencies. MonsterMortgage.ca is the event's presenting sponsor. Medical Pharmacies Group Limited is gold sponsor of the one-kilometre walk.
"I encourage everyone who is able to take the challenge to sign up," said Mayor Rob Ford. "If you are unable to take the challenge, encourage your friends and family to participate in the event."

This year's event marks the fourth year of involvement for Michelle Dubé, Anchor, CTV News Toronto, who will be the event's emcee and official starter again this year as Honourary Chair of the 2013 Toronto Challenge.
"It’s a great honour to be recognized as the Honourary Chair of the 2013 Toronto Challenge," said Dubé. "It's a great event and it's wonderful to see thousands of people supporting this important cause."
The Toronto Challenge is co-ordinated by Long-Term Care Homes and Services, leaders in excellence and ground-breaking services for healthy aging with a commitment to care, in support of non-profit organizations that improve the quality of life for seniors in the community. From funding the renovation of a seniors' facility to providing transportation services, from offering recreation programs to purchasing large print books - all are made possible by funds raised at the Toronto Challenge.
Anyone interested in taking the Toronto Challenge can pick up a registration form from Toronto Public Library branches, City of Toronto civic centres and community centres.
Completed registrations with waivers can be mailed to The Toronto Challenge, 11th Floor, Metro Hall, 55 John St., Toronto, ON M5V 3C6.
People may also drop their registration forms at the following Running Room store locations: Downtown Yonge at 53 Yonge St., Toronto Dominion Centre at 66 Wellington St. W., High Park at 2100 Bloor St. W. and the north Toronto store at 2629 Yonge St.
Registration is also available on race day at Metro Hall, 55 John St., from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Or, register online at http://www.events.runningroom.com. Race ID is 8885. The deadline to pre-register is Saturday, June 1.
Entry fee: Adults 15 to 64 years of age: $20; seniors: $10; disabled: $10; children (14 years and under): $10; family: $40 (two adults and two children or one adult and three children). Registration cheques should be made payable to Treasurer, City of Toronto.
The Toronto Challenge will take place on Sunday, June 9 starting at 9:30 a.m. at David Pecaut Square, Metro Hall.
